Woman Killed in Ewing Gas Explosion

A woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in an explosion in Ewing, New Jersey.  Her body was found on top of a parked car near the home.

"Because of the condition of the body, we're not able to ID it," Ewing Township Police Lieutenant Ronald Lunetta said.  "We'll have to wait for the autopsy and go through the autopsy procedure to do that, so that we're 100 percent sure."

Seven utility workers were injured in the blast on Crockett Lane, while dozens of homes were either damaged or destroyed.  Residents were evacuated from the neighborhood as a result.

"We're going to reassess those in the morning to see if any of those can be reinhabited," said Mayor Bert Steinmann.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
