British Tourist Has Left Leg Amputated At The Knee

(Rebecca Fishbein) The family of Sian Green, the British tourist who was seriously injured in a cab accident in Midtown this week, issued a statement yesterdaythanking all the witnesses who helped save her life.

Jason and Sonia Green have been at their 23-year-old daughter's bedside at Bellevue Hospital since arriving in Manhattan from Britain on Wednesday; one day earlier, Green was hit by a cab that jumped the curb in Rockefeller Center. Shortly after she was hit, plumber David Justino, celebrity Dr. Oz and other bystanders jumped onto the scene, applying tourniquets to stop her bleeding. "There are not enough words to express our gratitude to everyone who has helped our family during this difficult time," the Greens said in their statement yesterday. "We hope Sian will soon be on her way to recovery and will be able to personally thank all the kind people of New York City."

Doctors have since amputated Green's left leg below the knee, and say her right leg should "regain most functionality" eventually. Green had been eating a hot dog on the sidewalk at 6th Avenue and 49th Street on Tuesday when 24-year-old cabbie Mohammed Faysal Himon crashed into her. Himon claims he jumped the curb after getting into a confrontation with bike messenger Kenneth Olivo; the NYPD is still investigating the incident.
