A surprising new Marist College/Wall Street Journal/NBC poll shows that Anthony Weiner has pulled into first place in the Democratic race for mayor of NYC. Weiner has pulled ahead of City Council Speaker Christine Quinn with 25 percent of the registered Democrats polled saying they would vote for Weiner.
The New York Daily News reports that Quinn came in second in the poll with 20 percent of the votes. Weiner also beat Quinn in most major demographic groups, including women. 22 percent of voters polled chose Weiner compared to 21 percent for Quinn. Weiner started in second place in the polls after announcing his candidacy for mayor back in May.
Bill Thompson came in third in the poll with 13 percent of the votes, followed by Bill de Blasio with 10 percent and John Liu with 8 percent.
